Innerwear chain to be closed by Oswal
Oswal Retail is looking at shutting down its innerwear retail chain Straps. Called Sensa it was rolled out as a first retail outlet for the Indian lingerie industry. The industry which has about 1,000 Indian brands is said to be a booming market with immense potentials. The earlier focus had been to grab a 5% market share of the undergarments market and retail was to contribute 25% by 2010.

growth after implementation of the new plans. The Crocodile Store as a
format store of the West is slated to be tried out. The brand colour from
green is to be changed to grey.

Tirupur brand hardsell
Tirupur which till now was catering to the needs of the big global garment manufacturers and retail chains is now looking at the domestic industry. The knitwear which contributes more than Rs. 6,000 crores. Brand promotion is now being looked at. Though problems like cost and impact is a difficult option. However, given the lucrative size of the domestic market, companies are increasingly looking at brand building exercises. They are increasingly drawing inspiration from companies like Classic polo brand which has tasted success in branding. RCML is now extending its marketing in the north and the east. Most companies are entering the country in a phased manner. Solo is planning to launch its range of casual and intimate wear in the north by the end of this year. Brand building is a complicated process but it gives the brand the identity and helps increase sales. Tantex earlier with TTK is being relaunched by Thanks Garments.
Arvind to launch more VF brands
Arvind Brands is looking to expand its alliance with $ 6 billion VF Corp., the world’s largest publicly traded apparel maker with the launch of 3 more brands from its international portfolio. Arvind is looking at bringing in Nautica as also JanSport and Kipling. This is its move into non-apparel categories as well. Arvind has an existing licensing agreement with VF Corp for jeans brands like Lee and Wrangler in India. VF Corp. acquired Nautica built by designer David Chu and has been expanding it. It also acquired Kipling of Belgium a fashion accessories segment. Nautica is likely to be launched in Delhi first.
